VE DAY 75: Sewerby Hall Concert Goes Online

Published by Matthew Pells at 11:47am 6th May 2020.

Sewerby Hall is replacing it's planned VE Day events with an online concert featuring music from the 1940's.

The planned events for VE Day this Friday at Sewerby Hall and Gardens can no longer take place because of its closure due to the COVID-19 restrictions, instead the venue will now be sharing it's VE Day celebrations on social media.

Singer Ruth Getz, one of the UK’s leading vintage vocalists, was due to be in concert in the Orangery. Instead, she has made a special film for the Sewerby Hall and Gardens You Tube channel, including her performance of a classic number from the 1940s, which can be seen from 08.30 on Friday (8 May).

In addition, wartime recipes and historical photos from the Second World War, when parts of Sewerby Hall were in use as a hospital, will be available on its Facebook page.

Marie Gascoigne, general manager of Sewerby Hall and Gardens, said :

“Although we are unable to enjoy our planned VE Day events, we wanted to play our part in the nation’s celebrations of this important anniversary. I am delighted that Ruth has recorded a special film for us, and that we are able to share some amazing wartime memories of the history of the house.”
