Fresh Appeal To Help Scarborough's Salvation Army

Fresh Appeal To Help Scarborough's Salvation Army

Published by Karen Liu at 9:10am 6th May 2020.

A fresh appeal has been launched to support Scarborough's Salvation Army during the Coronavirus outbreak.

It is for the charity's 'Emergency Food Bank Appeal' and the town's Brunswick Centre has donated £500 in cash and provisions.

Due to COVID-19, local food charities are facing a challenge as they see demand increase as more and more families suffer through income loss through redundancy, the inability to work, because they fall sick or have to self-isolate.

Major Stephen Noble, from Scarborough Citadel Salvation Army, said:

“The COVID 19 situation continues to be a major and growing issue within the community of Scarborough.

This new reality is driving unprecedented demand for the provision of food through our food bank facility on a daily basis, as we encounter more and more families who are unable to make ends meet. As well as children who are not being fed at home and who are at high risk during the current lockdown."

As uncertainty continues over the impact of the current situation Brunswick wanted to create a focus to raise money now, to give essential funds to the local Salvation Army so they can provide emergency food for those who cannot afford to eat.

Sue Anderson-Brown, centre manager at Brunswick, commented:

“We know the food bank is under tremendous pressure, in these uncertain times. Whilst we’re currently unable to collect donations of groceries at Brunswick through the centre’s donation stations, we urge all of our customers to give any spare cash they can through our specially created Just Giving Page.”

The Salvation Army will use every donation big or small to support the most vulnerable within our local communities.
