4000 Visors Delivered To Scarborough Health Care Workers

Scarborough's community personal protection equipment campaign has been a huge success.

Since last month, various people and groups have been producing visors for those in need.

The organisers say they are now standing down as there is a regular supply of PPE coming in, but say they will be keeping an eye on things in case they are needed again.

John Senior, Chairman of the South Bay Traders Association, is one of those who has been helping and said:

"We've managed to fill all the gaps. We've supplied around about 4,000 visors across the time we were active.

We covered 55 nursing homes, four hospitals, 15 GPs, 26 care centres, pharmacies and number of miscellaneous.

So we managed to hit from Bridlington up to Whitby and out as far as Beadlam.

I think some of the smaller nursing homes and care homes were suffering very badly.

I remember at one, I actually made a mistake and went to the wrong door, knocked and said 'oh I'm really sorry this is for Beechward' and she looked at me and said 'please can I have those?' and she literally had tears running down her cheeks.

So I gave them to her and it was no problem, we just re-distributed the orders but the reaction was absolutely tremendous and I think all of the delivery team were brought to tears."

John has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning:

It is always heart warming and rather humbling to read stories like this. Well done everybody.
