Scarborough Fire Station Creates 'Virtual Classroom' For Children

Published by Karen Liu at 11:32am 29th April 2020.

Scarborough Fire Station's created a virtual classroom for children at home.

Its crews are teaching basic maths and science whilst incorporating firefighting skills into the lessons.

Graeme Casper, Station Manager at Scarborough Fire Station, gives this example:

"A fire engine holds 2,000 litres of water and it's pumping 400 litres per minute, how long will that water last?

That's the sort of questions we do and actually that is fire grounded equations that firefighters have to use."

He said:

"The kids love it, the teachers love it and the kids are now leading the way in other sessions.

The next session is going to be about ladders, so we'll do something about height."

Graeme has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning:

They are looking for more schools to take part in this initiative.

If anyone is interested, then you are asked to contact Graeme on Graeme.Casper@northyorksfire.gov.uk
