Coronavirus: Lockdown Reducing Impact In North Yorkshire

Lockdown is reducing the impact of Coronavirus in North Yorkshire.

That is according to the county's Local Resilience Forum, which is a co-ordinating group involving the emergency services, councils and other agencies.

Assistant Chief Constable, Mike Walker, is the police lead on the forum and said:

"In North Yorkshire, we have reduced the risk of us having a spike, which would have caused massive pressure within the NHS and inevitably cause excess deaths.

So the work that we've done, more importantly, the work that the public have done in North Yorkshire, has meant that it's not going to impact us and isn't as significant as it may have done.

However, we are not out of the woods. We cannot relax in terms of the social distancing that we're doing and people must stay at home.

There's going to be a lot of work over the next few days to focus upon the care homes to ensure that we do reduce the risk of the spread of the virus there, and reduce the likelihood of death caused by the COVID outbreak.

So it one of the focuses, there is more work to do in terms of ensuring we have the correct links in, that they have all the right PPE, that they're following national guidance in terms of looking after the residents and the staff within the care home."
