Snainton Resident Receives Scam COVID-19 Phone Call

A Snainton resident has received a scam phone call in relation to Coronavirus.

North Yorkshire Police say it happened over the weekend, when the caller advised the resident of what they should be doing during the lockdown, and that they must stay indoors.

The resident was told that they were going to be sent two masks, two hand gels and gloves and requested their address. 

The fraudster then stated the price would be £29 and requested bank details.

Officers say the resident identified it as a scam call and said the number may be coming from a number of 02080402745

It has issued this advice if you receive a call like that:

  • Hang up
  • Do not engage with the caller
  • Do not provide personal details
  • Do not provide bank details

If you have provided your details to a caller such as this, contact your bank immediately then call police on 101.
