There was a number of concerning call-outs for fire officers in the Scarborough area on Friday night and early on Saturday morning, including organised gatherings.

Just before 9pm, off Hay Lane, Scalby, Fire Control received a number of calls to reports of a large fire seen at the top of a hill. Upon arrival, officers found a fire to vegetation measuring around 30 metres by 30 metres. The crew believe this spread from a camp fire left unattended. The incident has been left open for a crew to return on Saturday and and ensure the fire is extinguished.

Minutes later, off Trinity Road in Scarborough, Filey fire crew attended a report from Police of a fire in the open, near some garages. They investigated and found a bonfire attended by approximately 12 to 15 people. The crew gave stern advice in relation to social distancing and the group were dispersed.

Then in the town's Gladstone Road area, Scarborough crews attended reports of smoke coming from an apartment in a building. They were able to isolate a cooker where a grill pan had been left unattended. A man in his mid 30’s was in the property and checked over by paramedics. The fire was out upon arrival and crews used a ventilation fan to clear the smoke.

Just before 4am, in Eastfield, a number of fire officers tackled a blaze in a large shed in a recycling centre, they remained there well into Saturday morning.
