Fire Warnings Ignored On Yorkshire Coast

Published by Karen Liu at 7:53am 17th April 2020. (Updated at 2:15pm 17th April 2020)

Firefighters on the Yorkshire Coast attended two incidents last night.

The first was at 8.07pm at Edgehill in Scarborough when crews were called to reports of a fire in the woods.

Upon arrival and investigation they found it to be a campfire attended by youths.

Crews used a knapsack sprayer to damp down and put out the fire.

The second incident was at 9.50pm at Tate Hill Beach in Whitby.

Crews were called to reports of a fire on the beach, which was put out using a bucket of water.

The cause is believed to have been deliberate.

It comes after pleas from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue to NOT to start fires outside, and for parents and guardians of young people to make sure they know where they are, and what they are up to.
