Prosecution For Scarborough Borough Fly-Tippers

Prosecution For Scarborough Borough Fly-Tippers

Published by Karen Liu at 6:00am 17th April 2020.

Scarborough Borough Council is issuing advice to stop people from fly-tipping.

There have been reports of resident, and businesses, dumping rubbish in various places around towns.

It is due to household waste recycling centres being closed.

Liz Colling, Deputy Leader of Scarborough Borough Council, said:

"Where we catch them or we see the rubbish and we can identify where it's come from, we will prosecute; make no mistake about that.

There have been a couple of incidents, but actually there's not been a significant increase, but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't be vigilant.

There are some things we can do, I mean fairly obviously, if you need to report a fly-tipping incident, then do that online or call the Environment Agency.

My brother's tided out his shed and he says 'I've got all this stuff, what do I do?' and I said 'you're going to have to store it because the recycle centres are closed'.

But there are some things around making sure that we don't overload our bins, so please don't be tempted to put it into your bin as it slows the bin rounds down and we have done really well to keep our bin collections going."

Yorkshire in Business, which is a charitable organisation based in Scarborough, has put out a Facebook post showing pictures of a business using their car park to dispose of their waste.
