East Riding 'One Of Fastest' Councils To Process Grants

East Riding 'One Of Fastest' Councils To Process Grants

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Joe Gerrard at 8:35am 10th April 2020.

East Riding Council is one of the fastest local authorities for processing coronavirus business grants, according to the Housing, Communities and Local Government Minister.

Robert Jenrick said the authority was one of those leading the way on getting funds to firms affected by the outbreak.

East Riding Council leader Richard Burton said staff were working “extremely hard” to get funds to businesses.

Cllr Burton said:

“These are very difficult and challenging times and staff are working extremely hard to ensure those who are eligible for grants are paid as soon as possible.

As of Wednesday, 8 April, the council had made grant payments totalling £42.7million to local businesses.

I’m pleased the hard work and dedication of staff has been recognised and we are one of the top five councils in the country when it comes to paying out grants.

But there is still more to do and staff will continue to work hard to ensure everyone who is eligible gets the grants they are entitled to.”

East Riding Council came fourth in terms of how much money it had already handed out to companies.

Cornwall Unity Authority came first, Durham County Council second, Northumberland County Council third and Leeds City Council fifth.
