'Stay at Home' Says Scarborough and Whitby MP

Published by Jon Burke at 8:01am 10th April 2020.

'Please stay at home over Easter', is the message to residents, as well as unwelcome visitors to the Yorkshire coast.

It comes from Scarborough and Whitby MP, Robert Goodwill, ahead of concerns people might be tempted out.

Some have reported heavy traffic in places, including Whitby.

His message to those who are breaking the rules is:

"Stay at home, you idiots. You are causing unnecessary risks and, ultimately, people will die if people don't completely comply with the rules.

You should only make necessary journeys to get food, to get medicines, or to travel to work - you should not be travelling on holiday."

Robert's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..

Listening to Robert Goodwill highlights the need
For more control measures. Not for all but the
Offending individuals. A quick solution could
Be electronic tagging of persistent offenders
And up to house lockdown being imposed if
Needed. I understand some would see this as
Authoritarian or against civil liberties but these
Individuals are putting lives at risk and you
Could ever stretch to premeditated manslaughter.
There have been incidents in Spain where the
Police have discharged guns into the air to
Remind people they are breaking social
Restrictions. STAY IN YOUR OWN AREA.
