Money Needed To Buy Items For Scarborough Hospital

Published by Karen Liu at 12:38pm 9th April 2020. (Updated at 1:00pm 9th April 2020)

An appeal has been launched for money donations so items can be purchased for Scarborough Hospital.

It will be used to help both frontline staff and patients.

Community fundraisers for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which run the hospital, are behind the campaign.

Maya Liversidge is one of them and said:

"People have been so generous with gifts and various things; from hand cream to walkie-talkies to hampers and food. It's been fabulous.

We're specifically asking if people would be willing to donate money, rather than gifts; because as a charity it would allow us to buy what is needed, for where it's needed, and it's equally shared out across the areas".

She explains what the money raised will go towards:

"We're putting together care boxes for all the wards and departments, there are food and drink for staff, walkie-talkies, communication aids for patients and white goods.

We've found that staff areas have been split in half, so they used to once have a staff room that had things in that they could warm food up in, they could make a cup of tea and just sit down and now suddenly they're in another room that's got none of that".

Maya has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Paddy in the Morning:

Walkie-talkies? Now that is a gadget I have not heard mentioned for some time.
