Scarborough Borough Council says it is continuing to play a vital role in supporting local commmunities during the Coronavirus outbreak.

Its staff, including those that work within the White Rose Home Improvement Agency, are working together as part of the partnership with the local voluntary and community sectors and North Yorkshire County Council.

As of Monday 6th April, they have supported more than 150 vulnerable people who have been self-isolating at home during the last two weeks.

  • 67 people have received a bespoke shopping delivery
  • 34 food packs have been provided to the most vulnerable via a local foodbank
  • 26 prescriptions have been collected and delivered
  • 17 people have been supported by regular befriending chats
  • 10 people, who had no funds to pay for their electric, have been assisted
  • 3 safeguarding concerns have been reported

Cllr Carl Maw, Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities and Housing said:

“Our teams have been doing a tremendous job supporting our local community alongside their normal day to day roles and we have been getting some amazing feedback from those we are helping.

One resident who was supported with the befriending service mentioned that it was his birthday and so staff arranged a birthday card and a special little gift to let him know they were thinking of him.

I am so proud of the work the teams are doing during this very difficult time.”

Anyone that cannot access support through family, friends, neighbours or established community groups, should call 01609 780780 for assistance and they will be given the most accurate and up to date information about who can help them in their local area.
