Three Fires on Yorkshire Coast in One Hour

Firefighters have attended three fires on the Yorkshire coast this afternoon.

Whitby –Time of call 14:06

Crews from Whitby and Lythe responded to a report of a roof of a residential property on fire. Prior to crews arrival the fire had been extinguished by the occupier. Crews inspected the affected area and loft space for fire spread. 1 male suffering slight smoke inhalation was taken to hospital via road ambulance for precautionary checks.

Whitby –Time of call 14:45

Crews from Whitby and Lythe responded to a report of a shed on fire following fire spreading from a neighbors garden. The fire caused by a small stove caused fire damage to the decking, 4 garden sheds and trees. Crews extinguished the fire using 2 main jets and 2 breathing apparatus.

Scarborough –Time of call 14:57

Crew from Scarborough responded to a report of a fire seen to the rear of a property, this was a controlled burn under supervision. Crews gave advice to the home owner.

It comes after advice from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue services to avoid having fires outside during the coronavirus, to reduce the pressure on emergency services.

Scarborough Borough Council has also asked residents to be mindful of the health implications, with breathing problems reported by some, adding to complications caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
