Whitby's Minor Injuries Unit Reduces Hours

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Carl Gavaghan at 5:00pm 6th April 2020. (Updated at 6:03pm 6th April 2020)

The opening hours of the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Whitby Hospital are to be reduced, with immediate effect, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust says the unit will close tonight at 6.30pm, 90 minutes earlier than normal.

The trust said in a statement that it hoped the move would only be temporary.

It added:

“As a response to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, we will be temporarily reducing the hours of the Minor Injuries Unit at Whitby Hospital.

The opening hours were previously 8am-8pm, and will change to 8am-6.30pm from Monday April 6.

This is made necessary in order to relocate staff to other critical clinical areas during the Covid-19 emergency.

The MIU department will display clear signage to redirect out of hours attendees.

If the person is experiencing a medical emergency, they need to call 999 for an ambulance. Other visitors are instructed to call NHS 111 and seek advice from call handlers on alternative assistance.

We will restore the usual opening hours as soon as we are able to.”
