Man Charged for Throwing Vomit at Scarborough PC

A man's been charged after throwing vomit at a police officer in Scarborough.

The 26-year-old has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker (on the way to work); criminal damage to the off-duty police officer’s coat and headphones; resisting arrest; and using threatening/abusive language/behaviour to cause harassment /alarm/distress to a female member of the public.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court next month.

The incident occurred outside Squire’s carpet shop on Victoria Road at 6.39am on Friday (3 April 2020).

The suspect, who was bare chested and wearing tracksuit bottoms, was reported to have violently confronted the off-duty officer and tried to throw a bag of vomit over him.

The man was initially restrained by the victim and another fellow off-duty officer who had noticed the disturbance and realised his colleague needed assistance. 

Officers on patrol then arrived at the scene and the suspect was placed into a police van and taken into custody for questioning.
