Yorkshire Coast Residents Asked Not to Have Fires

Yorkshire Coast Residents Asked Not to Have Fires

Published by Jon Burke at 8:01am 5th April 2020.

Residents on the Yorkshire coast are being asked to avoid burning rubbish in their back gardens.

The request comes from Scarborough borough council, which says it's been receiving complaints.

It says there are two reasons why this is a bad idea.

One is it's causing breathing problems for some, at a time when that's more worrying than ever before and the other is the risk of putting emergency services under more pressure, if a fire gets out of control.

The Council's Deputy Leader, Liz Colling, has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio..

Open the tips then, what are we supposed to do? They could be managed carefully to ensure social distancing and will reduce fires and inevitable fly tipping. The council has not been t
ransparent about the reason for their closure
