Scam Text Warning on Yorkshire Coast

North Yorkshire Police says it has been made aware of scam texts appearing to come from the Government, telling you to pay a fine.

The force says these are not real and you should delete them straightaway.

It said:

"Fraudsters are very clever at positioning scams in ways that will be effective at getting your money and this latest tactic plays on current anxieties around Coronavirus."

Take these simple steps to protect yourself:

  • 🖐Do not click on links or open attachments in emails and text messages.
  • 🖐Take time to check emails or messages are from a legitimate source.
  • 🖐Delete any suspicious emails or text messages immediately.
  • 🖐Never give out personal or financial information over the phone.
