Scarborough Remembrance Chapel Closed

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Carl Gavaghan at 1:15pm 3rd April 2020.

The book of remembrance at Scarborough’s crematorium will be off-limits during the Covid-19 crises, it has been confirmed.

Scarborough Council has announced that it will close the remembrance chapel, in order to stop the spread of the virus.

In a statement, the authority said:

“As part of our efforts to help keep people safe during the coronavirus outbreak, we are continuing to review the use of facilities at Woodlands Crematorium that are subject to a high level of touch by the public.

We have therefore taken the difficult decision to close the book of remembrance chapel until further notice.

We appreciate not being able to access the printed book in person will be a concern to some, but we have seen a drop off in people coming to view the book since the government’s stay at home message began and you can still access the online version of the book at scribesplus.co.uk/scarborough.

Thank you for your understanding.”
