Hunmanby Schoolchildren Raise Money For Charity

A virtual coffee morning in Hunmanby has raised money for a Yorkshire Coast charity.

The Year 1 class at Hunmanby Primary School had scheduled a Rainbow Cafe fundraiser for Saint Catherine's in Scarborough.

It was due to take place last Friday (20th March) but with the school closing and the cancelling of large events, the children were unable to hold the event.

Lindsay Mason, who is mum to James and Grace, said:

"Parents had the idea to create a virtual coffee morning, setting up a donation page online we would donate what we would have spent anyway at the event.

We all quickly got our heads around video calling and arranged to meet online.

The children all aged between 5-6yrs old, loved seeing each other and sharing in the coffee morning experience.

The hospice is very close to my family's heart as we lost my mum to cancer early February, and she was able to spend her final week in the hospice, the care and support we all received was incredible.
Many families within the village and local area use their services. The hospice rely hugely on charitable donations, especially through these tough times they need our support more than ever!

We wanted to let them know that we are here for them and will continue to raise the vital funds for them to care for the community".

The virtual coffee morning has raised £172 for Saint Catherine's. Here is a link to the Just Giving page:
