North Yorkshire Police Records Speeds Of More Than 100mph

North Yorkshire Police say within 48 hours, they have recorded motorists driving at speeds of more than 100mph.

The force says it is due to the county's roads becoming quieter due to the Coronavirus outbreak and the Government's advice to stay at home.

On a Facebook post about the speeding, it said:

"This puts lives at risk and could tie up valuable emergency service and NHS resources when they are needed most.

We won't tolerate it and we will enforce it, for everyone's safety.

Our officers are also stopping motorists across North Yorkshire this weekend to ensure they understand and are following the government measures and only making 'essential' journeys.

We also have patrols continuing today in every district of the county to reinforce the message to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

Unless your journey is essential, #StayHomeSaveLives and help stop the spread of #Covid19"
