Flood Alert for Yorkshire Coast

Published by Matthew Pells at 11:48am 28th March 2020.

The Environment Agency have issued a flood alert for North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey, and a further alert for the North Sea Coast at Bridlington.

They expect waves and spray to affect sea front and coastal areas as a result of strong onshore winds.

Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads and around Marine Royal Albert Drive, Scarborough.

Coastal conditions are expected around high tide tomorrow morning 29/03/20 between 09:30 and 10:30 at Royal Marine Drive. Large waves and spray are also possible for high tide later today 28/03/20 from around 17:00 and Sunday morning 29/03/20 from around 04:45 although they are not expecting significant volumes of overtopping.

In Bridlington the areas most at risk are low lying land and roads and around South Pier and North Promenade, Bridlington. Coastal conditions are expected tomorrow morning 29/03/20 between 06:00 and 11:00 at Bridlington. Large waves and spray are also possible for high tide later today 28/03/20 from around 18:00

The agency say they are closely monitoring the situation and ask people to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous and stay aware in case further warnings are issued.
