Scarborough Care Home Resident's Singing Surprise

Scarborough Care Home Resident's Singing Surprise

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 10:50am 26th March 2020.

An elderly resident at Priceholme Care Home in Scarborough had a lovely surprise when her daughter sang 'White Cliffs Of Dover' from outside the window.

The care home have brought in strict visiting rules in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak, meaning it was impossible for face to face visits.

The unnamed daughter sang Vera Lynn's classic song to the delight of her mother, who was looking out of an upstairs window. Here's a clip of the rendition:

Debbie Dunkerton from Priceholme Care Home told Paddy that family members have been coming up with novel ways to bring smiles to the faces of residents:

"One of the family members came yesterday and sang 'there will be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover' to her mum and it brought a tear to our faces as well as her mum's face, it was absolutely amazing. To see her daughter stood there in the car park, she didn't think he daughter would do something like that so publicly, it just meant so much to her".

Debbie told us it's a really challenging time at the care home, but they're doing all they can to get everyone through the outbreak:

"We're putting on extra activities, the chefs are hand made individual cakes. We're doing anything to maintain the mind, body and spirit of the residents and also support the families who are going through a traumatic time as well because they're not able to hug and see their loved ones. We'll do anything we can to help, within reason, to keep them happy whilst maintaining the safety of the residents".
