Scarborough's National Armed Forces Day Postponed

Published by Jon Burke at 12:38pm 23rd March 2020.

Scarborough's National Armed Forces Day has been postponed.

The Borough Council has issued a statement.

"It is with regret that we advise you that Scarborough Borough Council and its partners will be unable to host the Armed Forces Day National Event planned for 27 June this year.

We are hoping to reschedule the event and will provide further updates in due course.

The extra pressure placed on ourselves and our colleagues in the emergency and public services at the present time in extreme circumstances means that the planning and staging of such a significant national event is not possible."

Cabinet member with responsibility for the delivery of the event, Cllr Tony Randerson, said:

“While I am sure you will be as disappointed as we are, you will understand the reason why this decision has been taken and for the need for the services to be focusing their attentions on the current exceptional issues facing the country.

We’d like to thank everyone who has been involved in working towards the event so far and ask for patience while we work with the Ministry of Defence to consider future options.

In the meantime, I wish you all well over this difficult period.”
