'Go Home' Sign Appears On Main Road Into Whitby

Drivers heading into Whitby have spotted a large homemade sign reading 'Go Home Save Lives' on a main route into town.

Scarborough Borough Councillor Guy Coulson has made the sign this morning (Sunday) and placed it on the A171 just outside Whitby in front of the Hawsker sign.

He says that the reaction he got whilst erecting the sign was really positive:

"I've constructed a sign this morning and put it in a prominent place. A lot of people driving by were blowing their horns and putting their thumbs up. We need to do things like this".

Guy said there was a lot of local frustration after thousands descended on local resorts on Saturday, despite government advice:

"It's after seeing the amount of people and traffic heading into not just Whitby but all out other towns on our beautiful coastline, with visitors from goodness knows where, even tour buses. After the government's guidelines against non essential travel I thought I needed to make a statement".

Another sign had appeared on the A171 Guisborough Road heading into Whitby which Guy said wasn't his and had since been removed.

Thought such signs were not permitted without council approval? They are always quick enough to make small businesses remove any roadside signs as they are potentially dangerous!
