The new owners of the Whitby Potash Mine say they're not planning to cut local jobs.

Anglo American's deal to buy Sirius Minerals has gone through, after it bought the company for 5.5 pence per share.

Many shareholders are unhappy after the value of their investments has wiped out - and say the company was sold too cheaply.

Chief Executive of Anglo American, Mark Cutifani, said:

"We are sensitive to the fact that some people are disappointed with the price, but at the same time all we can do is put in a bid that we think is justified, based on the technical risks involved - and it was a bid that was successful.

So, from our point of view, I think we've done the best we can. but, at the same time, we do feel for those that probably bought in at a higher price."

Mark has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Karen Liu..
