Andy Kingdom, director of public health at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“We are aware of the situation and I wish them a full and speedy recovery.

The council is working well with the NHS to do everything possible to help prevent the virus spreading.

We are making sure all precautionary measures are put in place to ensure East Riding residents are protected.

For most residents this will be a mild illness but for some it will require medical support and potentially hospitalisation.

To minimise this risk to vulnerable members of the community we can put in place good hygiene which is still the best prevention and simple steps, such as washing your hands regularly and thoroughly and covering your mouth and nose with a tissue if you cough, can help protect people from the virus.

If you have the symptoms of coronavirus which are a high temperature or a new continuous cough, please do not go to your GP or hospital, please stay at home for seven days to help protect others in your community.

Should your symptoms worsen or last longer than seven days please contact NHS 111 online.

If you do not have an internet account call NHS 111.”

Yesterday, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in North Yorkshire.

The County Council would not disclose the location of where specifically, due to reasons of confidentiality.
