Changes At Central Healthcare GP Practice In Scarborough

Published by Karen Liu at 4:17pm 13th March 2020. (Updated at 8:22am 14th March 2020)

There are changes to the Central Healthcare GP practice in Scarborough.

NHS Scarborough and Ryedale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says it takes patient safety very seriously and has been made aware that Central Healthcare’s Prospect Road Surgery has been temporarily closed and clinical services consolidated on to the Lawrence House and Peasholm sites.

It says this is because the practice is experiencing a number of staffing issues amid increased patient demand and it is not possible to deliver a clinically safe service from the Prospect Road site within the currently available staffing resources at this time.

With services consolidated on to two sites the practice will be able to ensure patients receive “an optimal service” and the practice believes the patient experience will be improved.

Central Healthcare has said that it recognises the temporary closure of Prospect Road Surgery will have an impact on some patients but says the distance to other surgery sites is relatively small and the area is well served by buses.

The CCG acknowledges the staffing difficulties faced by Central Healthcare and is supportive of the decision to consolidate services on the grounds of patient safety.

Amanda Bloor, Accountable Officer for North Yorkshire’s three clinical commissioning groups, said:

“Patient safety is our highest priority and we are aware of the staffing challenges at Central Healthcare and the impact this is having on the practice’s ability to deliver services safely at the Prospect Road branch site.

The CCG understands the inconvenience this change will have on some patients but we feel this is outweighed by the necessity to provide services in a way that puts patient safety first.

We will continue to work with Central Healthcare to support the practice to deliver safe and effective services to its patients.”
