We've been trying to find out what the situation is with the planned multiplex cinema for Scarborough.

Planning permission was first granted for the development on the North Bay in 2015, but a number of issues have caused delays and new plans.

In November, we told you the latest proposals to be approved were for a 6-screen cinema, 53 apartments, 5 restaurants and 4 shops - as well as a bar, gym and 59 car parking spaces.

At that time, developers Benchmark Leisure said they hoped it would be open by Christmas this year, but were very confident it would be ready by next year.

Chief Executive. Roland Duce. said he expected work to start by Valentine's Day..

It hasn't - and we've been trying to find out more.

We've approached Benchmark, which has refused our request for an interview, saying it has nothing to add at the moment.

The agreement it has with the council expires this year.

That is probably because there will not be an answer that the public would like. Next stop declaring bankruptcy and running away with the taxpayers free loan to them? As many said if this cinema ever appears it will be a miracle of biblical proportions. Okay SBC over to you for comment now?

Who would want to carry out this development and run the strong risk of lots of empty commercial units?

JOHN - someone who was hoping to change it from a cinema etc and make it all flats, in other words a scammer who was trying to get something through planning by devious methods.

I agree with Sara.

Benchmark must love SBC, all they have to do is ask and cash drops on the doorstep.

I think the leader of the council should give us a full statement now plus explanation as to the tip once known as a successful business called kinderland and the drug haven formally known as marvels, not to mention the farce of the excuses as to no building work yet?
