What Will The Budget Mean For The Yorkshire Coast?

What Will The Budget Mean For The Yorkshire Coast?

Published by Karen Liu at 6:02am 11th March 2020.

Today the Government will deliver its budget and we will be looking at what it means for the Yorkshire Coast.

The financial statement is the first of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's majority Government.

It will be delivered by newly-appointed Chancellor Rishi Sunak, who took over from Sajid Javid.

Yorkshire Coast Radio has got a Budget Special from 12pm to 3pm today (Wednesday 11th March).

We will be joined by Ros Haynes and Paul Dixon from Winn and Co Chartered Accounts in Scarborough.

They will be looking at what the Chancellor's announcements mean for you.

Paul said:

"Everything could be a surprise this time.

Obviously we're in a strange position where the Government has this huge majority so it can do what it wanted to do.

I'll be keen to know how the Government's going to reward the Northern voters that helped them get that majority.

So hopefully we'll see some benefits to the Yorkshire Coast there, in terms of transport, social care and the usual things that matter to us.

This is their first Budget under this new Government, new Chancellor, it could be a big, bold statement to announce their plans.

But, with this coronavirus, it's surely going to put so many things onto the backburner.

They're obviously going to pledge as much support as is needed to the NHS and to the social sector, which is a big area in this part of the country."

Paul has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke:
