Blows For Blues and Boro But Brid On Target

Bridlington Town were the only winners on a day of travelling for our local sports sides.

Brid won 2-1 at AFC Mansfield, coming from behind and completing victory with a last-gasp goal.

After trailing on six minutes, Brett Agnew's men  stepped things up in the second half and Niah Payne levelled before Billy Logan's 90th-minute winner. The Seasiders are fifth in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier, four points behind third-placed Penistone Church, with two games in hand. The top three teams are promoted.

Whitby Town lost ground on the top-five in the BetVictor NPL Premier Division yesterday after their seven-game unbeaten run was ended at bottom club Stafford Rangers.

The Blues took an early lead through Kieran Weledji, only for Rangers to quickly level, they then won the clash, four minutes from time. Town are four points behind Lancaster City, who sit in the final play-off spot, with four games in hand. However, it's a crowded picture, with other sides well in the hunt for a promotion spot.

Manager Chris Hardy felt the result was an accurate reflection of the game and the hosts deserved their win:

Meanwhile, only the most ardent Scarborough Athletic supporter would still consider them in the play-off battle after a 2-0 defeat at strugglers Ashton United.

Boro are just a place below Whitby, but have played four games more, with just nine matches left to play. The Seadogs will point to a troubled away record with further evidence of it in the North West as United won with goals in either half, including a penalty, after the interval.
