Bridlington Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officer

Published by Yorkshire Coast Radio News at 8:22am 1st March 2020.

A 47-year-old Bridlington man has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.

It follows an incident in the town, last Thursday, where a Humberside police officer suffered a serious injury to his eye. Fortunately the injuries are not life-changing.

Craig Male, of Trentham Drive, appeared at Hull Magistrates Court, on Saturday, charged with harassment, assault and section 18 assault on an emergency worker.

He will appear at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday 31st March.

Humberside Police Chief Constable Lee Freeman said:

“Assaults on any emergency worker are completely and utterly unacceptable and I will continue to raise this issue as I will never accept it as a normal part of the job.

“Police officers are there to protect the public and while they will always run towards danger as part of their duty and service to keep people safe, they should not have to endure or experience any form of violence against them whilst just doing their job.”
