Scarborough Gets New Bereavement Service

Scarborough Gets New Bereavement Service

Published by Karen Liu at 7:02am 1st March 2020.

Scarborough is getting a new bereavement service from today.

Cruse Bereavement Care, a national charity, has been operating in York and North Yorkshire.

But thanks to funding from 'Awards for All, it has decided to expand into Scarborough.

Sue Gill, Volunteer Support Worker, said:

"Bereavement isn't an illness. There are people for all sorts of reasons that will need a bit of extra support, and that doesn't mean that you're a failure.

There's no right or wrong way to grieve and you might the only member of your family that's asking for support.

Please don't let that put you off; we all grieve in different ways and we all have different needs.

We offer one-to-one support, face-to-face support, we offer telephone support and we can, in the future, offer group support.

We have a completely confidential service and we'll stay with someone for about one hour.

We'll see anybody, whether it's from the age of four to 104, where somebody very close to them has died."
