Bridlington Hospital Launches Wellbeing Services

Bridlington Hospital Launches Wellbeing Services

Published by Karen Liu at 3:42pm 26th February 2020.

Bridlington Hospital has launched wellbeing services for patients and the public.

The new scheme provides activities for hospital patients and the local community to improve physical ability and promote mental wellbeing.

Working in partnership with the health and wellbeing team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, the hospital will provide ward activities for inpatients and a health café for local people.

The scheme kicks off with a programme of activities for inpatients on Johnson Ward, including chair and bed yoga.

Charlene Sargeant, Ward Manager on Johnson Ward, said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer this new service to help patients with their recovery while they are still in hospital.

The programme is designed to reduce the length of hospital stay and prevent the risk of falls by offering physical activity sessions with chair and bed based exercises.

As well as the physical side, we are looking at introducing activities that will promote mental wellbeing such as dementia support groups and singing.

The programme is aimed at reducing social isolation and increasing quality of life for patients and their carers. It’s a first for the area and we are so proud to have this on Johnson Ward.”

Joel Rollinson from the wellbeing team at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“This is just the start for Bridlington Hospital - we are aiming to make this a base for people to access and engage with any support they may need, right in the heart of the community.

As well as the sessions we are providing, such as leisure activities and health checks, we have invited Lifeline telecare and Healthwatch groups to provide support and advice.

Our vision is to work with a range of different services, providers and voluntary community groups in the area to deliver a variety of activities.”

Sessions take place in the café area of Bridlington Hospital and begin on Tuesday 3rd March with a visit from Healthwatch.

If you are a local service in Bridlington or a voluntary group in the area and would like to get involved please contact Joel Rollinson, from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council on 07970859122 for more information.
