Fairtrade Fortnight Starts Across Scarborough Borough

Fairtrade Fortnight Starts Across Scarborough Borough

Published by Karen Liu at 12:41pm 24th February 2020.

Fairtrade fortnight starts from today across Scarborough Borough.

There is going to be a number of events taking place until March 8th.

There will be school assemblies, activities in Churches, and tea, coffee and cake stalls.

Greg Long, Chair of the Borough of Scarborough Fairtrade Group, said:

"Scarborough's gained fairtrade status as a Borough since 2008.

It's important to keep that status alive and growing because fairtrade makes such a difference to the producers of the goods that we buy.

Fairtrade is a way of giving people a fair deal for the produce that they grow and produce for us; things like tea, coffee, bananas, pineapples and clothing.

It gives them greater stability within their lives, because they get a set level market price."

The group has put together a list of events organised by various groups across the Borough.

One of these will be in Scarborough Town Hall before the Council meeting on Friday (28th February). From 1pm to 2pm, Fairtrade tea and coffee will be served to Councillors and visitors. All are welcome to go along whether that is for going to the Council meeting, or just want to know more about Fairtrade.
