Clean Up at Cayton Bay

Clean Up at Cayton Bay

Published by Yorkshire Coast Radio News at 6:01am 22nd February 2020. (Updated at 9:52am 22nd February 2020)

Local people are invited to a beach clean at Cayton Bay on Saturday morning.

First Locate have teamed up with the Marine Conservation Society for the event which starts at 9.45am.

Jon Christopher is Chief of Services at First Locate, he said they wanted to help out locally:

"We've been looking to get involved with some local charities and this would be a good one for a kick off to put something back in the local community.

"We've chosen to do a beach clean because a lot of our staff live locally and publicity regarding waste and plastics is quite enormous at the moment.

"It's an issue all around the coast of Great Britain, so we just thought we'd get involved and do something like that and with it being an area local to where we work."

Jon says all are welcome and his company are hoping to organise twice-monthly beach cleans in future:

"It's open to absolutely anybody, we've got 15 to 20 people coming along some are bringing their children, some are bringing their dogs and we're just hoping for some decent weather so we can have a really good morning doing it."

"We're meeting at Cayton Bay at the surf shop at the top of the cliff. We're going to be met by Matt Barnes from the Marine Conservation Society for a quick safety briefing and the handing out of plastic bags. We've got equipment, we've got pickers, then we're going to be off down to the beach and get cracking and see what we end up with."

There's another beach clean at Bridlington's North Beach from 12 noon on Saturday and another at Filey's Coble Landing on Sunday, at 10am. Both are organised by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
