Meeting Tonight on Future of Burniston Show

Meeting Tonight on Future of Burniston Show

Published by Jon Burke at 1:37pm 20th February 2020.

The Burniston Show, which began as a Floral and Horticultural Society Show, has been successfully run since 1888, showcasing the best of local farming, food and the countryside, needs new organisers and there's a meeting tonight for anyone who's interested to find out more.

The Burniston and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society, who ran the event annually, have now closed as a society and will have no further part in running Burniston Show. At one of their final meetings, the society committee members decided to ask Burniston Parish Council to find new organisers for the show.

It hasn't been held since 2017, when bad weather prevented it from going ahead.

To this end, Burniston Parish Council is now the custodian of all the Show’s assets and is looking to find new organisers for the event.

In undertaking this task, Burniston Parish Council would like to acknowledge and thank the members of the Burniston and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society, for their hard work and enthusiasm, which led to a highly successful event over many years.

The Council says it's aware that the Burniston Show is an event that is a large part of life in our area and draws many visitors, from both near and far, to the event.

The Council, which would very much like to see the Show continue, has agreed to the Society’s request and begun the process to find new organisers.

They will be holding an open event at Burniston Village Hall today, from 7pm to 9pm.

They're looking for interested parties to come along, discuss their ideas and listen to theirs, with a view to continuing what is a special event for this area.

You don’t have to be part of a group to attend, but if you would like to be involved, you're invited to go to the open meeting.
