A dog has been hit by a car in Scarborough.

It happened outside the Newlands Park Hotel on Newlands Park Drive on Monday (17th February) between 9.15pm and 9.45pm.

The dog's owner said it was hit by a silver estate car and the driver did not stop.

It was reported to police yesterday (Tuesday 18th February) in the afternoon.

The dog, a Patterdale Terrier called Salem, was unconscious but it survived the collision and it is receiving treatment at a vets.

Police say they are making enquiries with the hotel to check if they captured any CCTV footage of the incident.

It is after a number of witnesses have been unable to provide a registration number for the car involved.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation, including identifying the silver estate car and its driver, are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101. Please quote reference number 12200029241.

speaking as a dog owner and a car driver was pooch on a lead? My dog never gets the chance of getting out of my car without a lead on. Always walk her so she never gets into the road and never take her near the cliffs without a lead. The driver may not have noticed (i hope that was the case) as it looks a small dog. Glad it is okay.
