Flood Warnings Remain for Yorkshire Coast on Sunday

The Environment Agency has issued two Flood Warnings for Scarborough and a flurry of Flood Alerts for the Yorkshire Coast stretching from Whitby in the North to Bridlington in the south.

The alerts come as storm Dennis brought 55mph winds and heavy rain to the Yorkshire Coast.

Foreshore Road and Sandside in Scarborough and the area between Ruswarp and Sleights, near Whitby are likely to be affected.

There is a Met Office yellow warning in place for wind. 

The following Flood Alerts have been issued.

North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey.

Flooding is possible for: The North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey, including Scarborough.

This flood alert has been issued as overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of high tides and strong winds.

  • Areas of particular concern are Scarborough Sandside and Scarborough Foreshore Road North.
  • Overtopping waves and spray are expected at Sandside on Sunday 16.2.20 between 11.00 and 12.30 and at Sandside and Foreshore Road between 20.45 and 01.30.
  • This alert is also in force for Monday morning’s high tide between 9.00 to 11.30.

The North Sea coast from Bridlington to Barmston.

This flood alert has been issued for this evening’s high tide on Saturday 15.2.20.

Overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of high tides and strong winds.  

  • Areas of particular concern are Bridlington South Pier and Lifeboat Station.
  • Overtopping waves and spray are expected between 20.45 on Saturday 15.2.20 to 00.30 on Sunday morning 16.2.20. 

Two higher level flood warnings have also been issued for Scarborough.

North Sea at Scarborough - Sandside.

Flooding is expected for: Properties on Sandside around the Old Harbour.    

This flood warning has been issued for Scarborough Sandside.  

  • Overtopping waves and spray are expected for tomorrow mornings high tide on Sunday between 11.00 and 12.30 and Sunday evening’s high tide between 21.30 and 01.30.
  • This warning is also in force for Monday morning’s high tide (17.2.20) between 10.00 and 11.30

 

North Sea at Scarborough - Foreshore Road.

Flooding is expected for: Properties on Foreshore Road from the roundabout to West Pier.    

This flood warning has been issued for Scarborough Foreshore Road North.  

  • Overtopping waves and spray are expected for tomorrow evenings high tide on Sunday 16.2.20 between 20.45 and 01.15 on Monday 17.2.20 
  • This warning is also in effect for the high tide on Monday morning between 9.00 and 11.30. 

The Environment agency say their incident response staff are closely monitoring the forecast.  They are asking people to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads, as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.
