Scarborough Residents Urged To 'Love Their Lifeboat'

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 15th February 2020.

Scarborough residents are being urged to 'love their lifeboat' today.

A fundraising event's taking place at the lifeboat house from 10am 'til 4pm.

There will be activities and games in the first-floor crew room.

It is hosted by Scarborough Lifeboat Station's events team and there will be a tombola with tea, coffee, juice and biscuits served.

Paul Huggins, Coxswain, said:

"We've got some VIP behind-the-scene tours.

So we'll actually take you all the way around the station; in and out the changing rooms, the crew rooms and all the training facilities.

We'll take you on-board the Shannon, the new ALB we've got here, it'll be powered up and all the systems will be running; we can sit you in the seat and explain exactly what we do when we go out on a shout.

We try and keep the events going and we try and keep the public aware of what we do.

The RNLI's a mainly voluntary service, so obviously the lifeboats and most of the crews are unpaid volunteers.

So what we look to do is try and raise as much money as we can to keep that service going.

It's a long standing service within the community."
