On a successful day for football and rugby, on the Yorkshire Coast, Scarborough Athletic and Whitby Town kept up their winning runs.

Athletic beat Hyde United 1-0, as around 200 Scarborough supporters travelled to manager Darren Kelly's former club.

A Kieran Glynn 35-yarder made the difference, early in the second half as the ball smashed in via the underside of the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Scarborough Athletic have appealed for witnesses after supporters threw a flare onto the playing surface, at Ewen Fields.

Whitby Town also continued their good recent form with a 3-1 success at Mickleover Sports.

Despite falling behind, just after the half hour, the Blues roared back, within four minutes, as Callum Patton scored.

Paul Blackett, on loan from Gateshead, made it eight goals in eight games, for him, as Town led, early in the second half. Patton then made sure of the win with an audacious backheeled lob, late on.

In rugby, Scarborough beat West Hartlepool 36-15 and Bridlington edged past Heath 22-20.
