The South Cliff Community Group's expecting the redevelopment to properly start from August.

Its Chair, David Auton, explains what's already been done:

"There's been a big programme with the Borough Council removing the old and unwanted trees through the South Cliff gardens.

It does mean that there are now some fantastic views from the Esplanade looking out across the bays and down to Filey, it's just absolutely wonderful; and certainly the people that I've spoken to are really, really pleased to see the views are now back because that's why they've come to Scarborough."

David explains what people can expect when work begins from August:

"The gardens project can really get underway with looking at new trees being planted.

There's a lot of reviewing going on about the buildings that are in the gardens, there are 14 or 15 heritage buildings in there and many of them are Grade Two listed buildings; but repair work needs to be done of those, they're knocking on the door of 200 years old."

He's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Karen Liu:

Last year, the project has received more than £5million from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Scarborough Borough Council.
