All our major football sides enjoyed home victories on Saturday.

Scarborough Athletic saw off Ashton United 3-1, at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

Darren Kelly's men fell behind to a 12th minute penalty but shot back, seven minutes later, with a spot kick of their own, converted by skipper Michael Coulson.

Coulson put Athletic ahead just after the hour and Ryan Watson made sure, with a third Seadogs goal, in the final minute.

Whitby Town were also victorious 3-1, as they saw off another North West side, Atherton Collieries, at the Towbar Express Stadium.

Adam Gell celebrated his 200th appearance for the Blues with a fifth-minute opening goal. A Dale Hopson penalty and Callum Patton's first of the season, either side of half time, cemented the win, with the Lancastrians finding a consolation, seven minutes from time.

Bridlington Town are up to fourth in their top three promotion bid after a hard-fought 1-0 win, at the Hudgell Solicitors Stadium.

Brett Agnew's side secured the victory thanks to Tom Waudby's 44th-minute goal. They're just five points behind second-placed Penistone Church, with four games in hand.

In rugby, Scarborough lost 35-24 at Moortown, but Bridlington beat Hullensians 31-10.
