Announcement of A64 Dualling Decision in March

Published by Jon Burke at 6:31am 3rd February 2020. (Updated at 7:05am 3rd February 2020)

We'll find out in March whether or not a part of the A64 will be dualled.

A decision was due to be made by the end of last month, but nothing will be announced till the Budget on March 7th.

The work would be on the Hopgrove Roundabout near York and along the route eastbound towards Malton.

Filey MP Kevin Hollinrake said:

"I'm confident, very confident. It's been a long battle, the road project is going to cost more than was first anticipated, because of the volume of traffic that's going onto it.

We've had a real battle with the Treasury and with the Department for Transport. The Prime Minister's been very supportive, as have Treasury Ministers like Rishi Sunak.

I think we're in a good place, so, yes, it's looking very, very promising."

Kevin's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..

This will cost a fortune and not really change anything.

The dual carriageway will be from Hopgrove roundabout to just past the Four Alls.

The road is then single carriageway for approximately 2 miles, then dual carriageway, then single carriageway to Malton by pass, and then from the end of the bypass single line to Scarborough or Filey.

So all this campaigning is for a very short dual carriageway.

It just seems a way of moving the hold ups 2 or 3 miles down the road
