Royal British Legion Explains Bridlington Closure

Royal British Legion Explains Bridlington Closure

Published by Jon Burke at 6:31am 28th January 2020.

The Royal British Legion says more demand for other services means it's had to close Bridlington's Alderson House.

As we told you last week, the town's Break Centre is shutting on February the 28th.

The Legion started a consultation towards the end of last year.

It says increased demand for services for those in crisis means it's had to reshape how it works

Assistant Director of Operations, Steve Barnett, said:

"We have had lots of people tell us about how well they value the service. What we've had to weigh that up against is evidence coming in, over the last few years, about the other services that we provide and the amount of demand that we have for those. People are coming to us, who're in crisis, who're in financial need, or want help with housing, or with their mental health."

Steve says the Legion has pledged to keep Bridlington's Poppy Club, a social group for local veterans, going.

He's been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..
