North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Scheme Ending

North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Scheme Ending

Published by Jon Burke at 7:01am 20th January 2020.

The North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area Programme ends this Summer.

£6 million pounds of money from the government has been used in Scarborough borough, to increase social mobility through improvements in education.

The scheme has been running since 2017.

Projects have included things like teacher recruitment, early years education and how secondary schools teach

Programme Director, Richard Benstead, said:

"Most of the projects will need some additional funding. We do not anticipate that any of them will need the level that's been provided so far, but it's about trying to look at different ways in which they can be sustained - different parties can make contributions, where they think one of the projects has really benefitted what they've been able to do within a school."

Richard's been talking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..
