A boy's been injured after colliding with a van in Snainton yesterday.

Officers and ambulance were called to the High Street yesterday (Wednesday 15th January) at around 5.05pm.

Police say it appeared that an 11-year-old boy stepped from the pavement in front of a slow-moving silver Vauxhall Combo van.

He hit his head on the bonnet and then landed on the floor. He suffered a serious but not believed to be a life-threatening head injury.

The boy was taken by air ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

He was later transferred to Newcastle RVI where he is being kept under observation as a precaution. The boy is expected to make a full recover in time.

The driver of the van, a 53-year-old man from Thornton-le-Dale, was not injured.

Local diversions were put in place while the emergency services worked at the scene. The road re-opened at 6.21pm.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident are asked to call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room. Please quote reference number 12200008470.
