Flood Alerts For The Yorkshire Coast

Published by Karen Liu at 4:03pm 14th January 2020.

The Environment Agency has published flood alerts for the Yorkshire Coast.

It affects the North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey, including Scarborough, and Bridlington to Barmston

The Environment Agency said:

"Storm Brendan is causing strong winds and large waves to affect the Coast in North Yorkshire.

Overtopping waves and spray are possible along seafront areas either side of the high tide at 6.45pm today.

Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads.

Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."

For the North Sea coast from Bridlington to Barmston, the Agency said:

"Overtopping waves and spray are expected as a result of Storm Brendan causing strong winds and large waves.

Consequently, flooding of coastal areas is possible between 5.45pm and 9.45pm today.

Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads, particularly around the South Pier and Lifeboat Station.

Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous."
