Diversity Performance Festival Returns to Bridlington

Published by Matthew Pells at 6:01am 6th January 2020.

Preparations are underway in Bridlington for the town's annual Diverse Fest.

The event is an ability performance festival in music, dance and drama for those with learning difficulties or disabilities and also for inclusive groups of all ages to perform at.

The event is in it's fourth year and will take place on the Royal Hall stage at Bridlington Spa.

Organiser Charlotte Gray says it's all about talent.

Charlotte says the event is a great platform for local diversity.

The event will take place on Saturday 1st February (11.30am-5pm) in the Royal Hall at Bridlington Spa and is open to everyone to come along and enjoy the day.

Bridlington Diverse Festival

Charlotte says..

"Over the first three festivals we have attracted performers and audience members from across the region. The aim of the festival has always been to create a fun, safe and inspiring event where people of all abilities can come together and showcase their talents. We want the event to grow each year and to bring people together from all communities across the region to support one another and make new and lasting friendships.

We wanted to host the festival in Bridlington to showcase what the Yorkshire Coast has to offer and encourage people to visit a new area and see it in a positive light.  With Hull  having been the City of Culture, it feels very fitting to have a sustainable event within the region."

The event, run by volunteers, will consist of performances from a variety of groups (1.30pm-4pm), activities, including soft play and storytelling (by International Storyteller Adrian Spendlow), karaoke, a café and a disco to end the event.

There are a wide variety of groups performing this year including the Ability Group from the Northern Ballet, Route 66 Skiffle Band from Hull and the Bridlington Den Inclusive Youth Theatre.

The event is open to everyone, regardless of ability and is very family friendly.

Tickets are £3 each for the day and you can come and go as you wish. Tickets can be bought in advance from the Spa Box Office or on the day at the event.
