Yorkshire Coast Adopters Needed to Keep Brothers and Sisters Together

Published by Matthew Pells at 6:01am 6th January 2020.

There's a need for more adoptive parents to take on sibling groups on the Yorkshire Coast.

The regional adoption agency for North Yorkshire and the Humber, One Adoption, says groups of brothers and sisters tend to wait longer for an adoptive family

Suzie Grove from the agency says They're looking for adopters who would consider welcoming a sibling group into their family.

Across the area there are nearly 30 children in sibling groups waiting for to find their permanent family.

Suzie Grove, head of One Adoption North and Humber, said:

"At the start of this new decade, we are urging people across the region to think about making the ultimate New Year's resolution to change the lives of a sibling group by giving them the loving, stable, permanent home they need.

In fact, there are lots of positives to adopting siblings so we'd encourage anyone thinking of adopting, to consider welcoming a sibling group into their home.

Children who are adopted together are more likely to settle in to their new home quickly, develop key social skills like sharing, as well as nurturing their own identity and sibling bond.

It also means you only have to go through the adoption process once to create your ready-made family!

Considering adoption is a huge decision for anyone. At times it is challenging, as parenthood is for everyone, but adoption is an incredibly rewarding and positive experience, and our team is always on hand to offer support and answer your questions."

One Adoption welcomes adopters from all walks of life, regardless of race, religion, sexuality or marital status. They say that what matters is that adopters are able to give children who might not have had a great start in life, a stable and happy home through to adulthood.

One Adoption North and Humber is a regional adoption agency made up of the adoption services of all five councils in the area: East Riding, Hull, North East Lincolnshire, North Yorkshire and York.

They offer adoptive parents support throughout the whole process and provide a comprehensive programme of pre and post adoption training and support.
